This low carb Chinese food recipe is great for meal prep and is super easy to make with simple ingredients.

Yes, there are carbohydrates in cabbage. However, cabbage is a nutritionally-dense low carb vegetable with a lot of fiber.

According to the USDA, one cup of Napa cabbage (used in this recipe) has 1.59 carbs and 0.73 grams of fiber. This means that one cup of cabbage has less than 1g of net carbs.

What does this mean? This means that there are very few carbs in cabbage. Eat lots of cabbage, friends!

Tools for Making This Keto Chinese Sheet Pan Recipe

Instead of using a wok to cook this recipe, this is a simple sheet pan recipe where you bake everything together on a baking sheet!

Traditional Chinese cooking is generally made using a wok. I love to use a wok to make Chinese food but not everyone has one. This sheet pan meal has a very authentic Chinese taste even though it is made in an oven ( which is pretty much never done in China).

Ingredients for this Cabbage and Sausage Keto Chinese Recipe

This sausage and cabbage keto Chinese recipe is made with super simple ingredients. Don’t let the simplicity of ingredients fool you, the flavors are super authentic to true Chinese cuisine while being low carb.

  • Sausage – You can use any variety of sugar-free sausage that you prefer, a neutral sausage without many spices would be best.
  • Napa Cabbage (You can use regular cabbage if you don’t have access to Napa or Chinese Cabbage)
  • Coconut Aminos or Gluten-Free Soy Sauce (Tamari)
  • Avocado Oil
  • Ginger
  • Garlic
  • Crushed Red Pepper
  • Sesame Oil
  • Salt (to taste)

The low carb Asian sauce in this recipe would work really well with chicken or even in a vegetable stir fry.

Tips for making this Low Carb Chinese Food Recipe

Low carb Chinese food doesn’t have to be far out of reach. Once you understand the basics of what is and is not considered low carb, you can turn a lot of Chinese recipes into low carb and keto-friendly versions.

If you’re sensitive to gluten or are avoiding soy, instead of using soy sauce you could use coconut aminos as a soy sauce replacement is a great option when making keto Chinese food. If you’re not avoiding soy, you could use tamari which is a gluten-free alternative for soy sauce.

This is a sheet pan meal that requires very limited work. Toss your cabbage on your sheet pan. Pour half of your low carb Asian sauce on your cabbage and mix it so that everything is coated.

In China, dishes like this are served with a bowl of rice. Since rice is very high in simple carbohydrates, that makes it unfit for a low carb or keto lifestyle.

You can enjoy this recipe as is and that is a great option. If you’d like rice with it, try cauliflower rice! Cauliflower rice is easy to buy frozen in most grocery stores, you can also make it yourself.

Ingredients

  • 6 Cups Chopped Napa Cabbage bite-sized pieces
  • 12 oz Sausage rounds* Neutral variety, choose your favorite type of meat

Low Carb Asian Sauce

  • 2 tbsp Coconut aminos or Gluten-free Soy Sauce (tamari)
  • 2 tbsp Avocado Oil
  • 1 tbsp Ginger minced
  • 4 cloves Garlic minced
  • ½ tsp Crushed Red Pepper Flakes Omit if you don’t like spicy food
  • Dash of salt or salt at the end if it needs extra
  • 1 tsp Sesame Oil

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F.
  • Mix the sauce together in a bowl (oil, coconut aminos, ginger, garlic, crushed red pepper, sesame oil)
  • Lay the chopped cabbage on the pan and pour most of the sauce over the cabbage, save about 1tbsp. Toss the cabbage in the sauce to coat it. Lay the sausage over the prepared cabbage.
  • Spoon a little sauce over each sausage round.
  • Bake at 400°F for 20 minutes then turn on the broiler for 5 minutes.
  • The meal is ready to serve!

Notes

Make sure the meat reaches the internal temp of 150°F if pork and 160°F if poultry.
*You can use your favorite variety of sausage (chicken, turkey, pork, beef). Just make sure that it doesn’t have sugar added. Also, be sure that the flavor is pretty neutral so that the Asian sauce can flavor the food. 
The low carb Asian sauce would be great for stir frys or other keto Chinese dishes!
