A lot of carbs are hidden in sauces! Some have minimal carbs and if you’re not super concerned about it then carry on, but if you’re avoiding certain ingredients, do a little research and planning! Pay attention to the ingredients in the following sauces.

- Oyster Sauce – Salt, sugar, soy sauce, corn starch (among other ingredients)
- Hoisin Sauce – starch, water, sugar, soybeans, sesame seeds, vinegar, salt, garlic, red peppers (plus some preservatives)
- Plum Sauce – plums, sugar, vinegar, salt, ginger, chili peppers (in addition to some other ingredients)
- Sweet and sour sauce – fruit, some vegetables, sugar, ketchup, vinegar, soy sauce (and maybe some other ingredients)
The main concern is the sugar and starches used to thicken in each of these sauces.

Many people following a low carb or keto way of eating avoid soy, instead of using soy sauce you could use coconut aminos. If you’re eating out, you could take some with you in a little container.
Things like noodles and rice would be a no-go for low carb options. However, you can order steamed or stir-fried vegetables and meat with no corn starch or sauce! Salt and some high heat for a stir fry make for a tasty dish!
