Can You Cook Turkey Bacon in the Oven?
It’s no secret that cooking bacon in the oven produces a predictable result. For years we’ve been enjoying regular bacon but can you cook turkey bacon the same way?
The answer is yes and no. The same style (on a baking rack) applies but the way that turkey bacon crisps up is so different from pork bacon. This will mean that your variety of turkey bacon may take a longer or shorter amount of time to cook. Once it looks crispy it should be ready.
Full disclosure, the bacon used in the pictures is Butterball Turkey Bacon. We also tried Oscar Mayer with success. Other turkey bacon brands may look different depending on if they’re cured or uncured.
What Temperature do you cook Turkey Bacon in the Oven?
What temperature do you use for cooking turkey bacon in the oven? Cooking the bacon at a lower temp took too long to crisp the bacon. Baking the turkey bacon at 425°F is a sweet spot for the temperature.
How do you like your Turkey bacon?
If you’re used to eating pork bacon, turkey bacon is a very different taste and texture.
Turkey bacon when cooked can seem rubbery like leather. The trick to getting crispy turkey bacon is to continue to cook it until it puffs in the fat segments.
If you cook your turkey bacon in the oven, make sure you continue to cook it until the edges AND centers pop up. If you don’t allow this to happen the bacon won’t be crispy.
If you like your bacon a little crispy, you can only let the edges puff up.
Tools for Baking Turkey Bacon in the oven
You’ll need a baking sheet, foil (for easy cleanup), and a baking rack. You could use a cooling rack as long as it is safe for the oven.
How Long Do you cook Turkey Bacon in the Oven?
If you’re cooking the turkey bacon on a rack, you don’t have to flip it and can allow it to cook on 425°F until it has puffed up (this is with Butterball brand and Oscar Meyer) other brands may behave differently, based on how the turkey bacon is prepared for sale.
To get the bacon to the crispy stage, it takes about 15 minutes. Just keep an eye on the bacon to see it puff up. (spoiler alert, it is fun to watch. Kind of like popcorn popping)
If the Butterball or Oscar Mayer turkey bacon puffs up, it looks slightly brown but it does not taste burnt (unless you cook it for a lot longer)! Once the bacon hits the “puff up” stage, it allows the bacon to crumble or be broken. Prior to that, it is leathery and not super great.
Bake Turkey Bacon for Meal Prep

Ingredients
- 10 Slices Turkey Bacon (half a package fits on one baking sheet) 8-12 slices
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F.
- Line a baking sheet with foil and place a baking rack on top of the foil (this allows for easy clean up).
- Place bacon (as many as fit on the rack usually 8-10) on the rack. Make sure none is overlapping.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes. Rotate the pan halfway through. Allow the edges to "puff" up (if using a brand like Butterball or Oscar Mayer). If the turkey bacon doesn't puff up it will not become crispy but texture preferences are up to you.
- Serve warm. If using the turkey bacon for meal prep, allow it to cool before storing.
