Tips for cooking Asparagus in the Instant Pot
Steaming asparagus in the Instant Pot is ridiculously easy.
Make sure you trim the asparagus. You’ve got to trim off any art of the stem that is too fibrous. If you can’t stick your nail in it easily, it needs to be cut off.
The older the asparagus is, the more trimming it will need.
Next, determine the size of your asparagus. Is it think or thick? If it is thin, cook it for less time. You don’t want to over steam the asparagus.
Pour one cup of water into the Instant Pot Pan.
Place a steamer basket or a rack inside the pressure cooker pot. Your Instant Pot or pressure cooker usually comes with a rack. A basket has smaller holes but a rack works since you don’t cut the asparagus in small pieces.

Secure the lid and make sure that the pressure valve is closed.

If your asparagus is thin (like what is pictured) set the Instant pot to steam for “0” minutes. If the stalks are thick, steam for 1 minute.
Maybe you’re asking how the asparagus can cook if it is set to 0 minutes. Well, the Instant Pot and other pressure cookers take time to heat up and reach pressure. During that time the asparagus is cooking!

Immediately (and carefully) release the pressure when the timer goes off.
Your asparagus is ready. Toss some butter on top with a drizzle of lemon juice. Sprinkle with salt and fresh cracked pepper, if you’d like.
