Garnish ideas for the pressure cooker steamed broccoli could include some butter, salt, pepper, minced garlic, and a squeeze of lemon juice.
If you like spicy vegetables, you could add some red pepper flakes as well.
Tips and steps for cooking Instant Pot Broccoli (fresh)
First you’ll want to cut your broccoli into bite-size florets.
Put water in the Instant Pot and then place the steamer basket inside.
Set the broccoli in then sprinkle some salt on top (I love to do this because it makes the steamed broccoli taste salty, the salt melts into the broccoli while it is being steamed).
The trick to steam broccoli, Instant Pot style, is 1 minute. Set the steam function to 1 minute.
(If you prefer crunchy broccoli, steam for zero minutes. )
Be sure to close the sealing valve.
You’re probably like, but how is one minute or zero minutes going to cook my broccoli? Well, it is the time it takes to get to pressure and release the pressure that cooks the broccoli.
Your pressure cooker will take 7-9 minutes (depending on the size) to get to pressure and then do a quick release of the pressure.
From start to finish this recipe takes 9 minutes (in an 8qt Instant Pot).
Keep it plain or garnish it with (a little) salt and pepper. Add butter, minced garlic, and maybe a squeeze of lemon juice. You can’t really go wrong!
How to steam frozen broccoli in the Instant Pot
If you’re wanting to cook frozen broccoli in a pressure cooker, there is a slight difference.
Since frozen broccoli is already parboiled, the outcome will be softer than when using fresh.
Only steam the frozen broccoli for zero minutes then immediately do a quick release.
The instant Pot will take a bit longer to reach pressure because the contents are frozen.
From start to finish, this takes 13 minutes (in my 8qt).
This is how the steamed (from frozen) broccoli looks, not mushy at all!
